Every journey has a beginning — this is mine.
From dusty paddocks in Victoria’s Mallee to a one-way flight to Dublin, Where It All Began traces the first steps of a country girl turned traveller. It’s about taking the leap, getting wonderfully lost, and finding pieces of yourself in faraway places.
Curious how it all started?
Where it all Began
I was born and raised under the vast, golden skies of the Northern Mallee in Victoria, Australia — a place where dust always seems to hang thick in the air and the sun always seems to be setting just beyond a wheat field. I'm a country girl through and through, heart firmly rooted in red dirt and open paddocks. When I’m not off discovering the world’s far corners, you’ll likely find me enjoying time back home on the family farm, annoying my family, or plotting the next big leap into the unknown.
Travel was always woven into the fabric of our family life — weekends on the road, winding through backroads and bushland. But it wasn’t until 2006 that I took my first true leap abroad. I quit my job, packed up my life, and landed in Dublin with a heart full of nerves and a backpack full of dreams. That year was a kaleidoscope of Irish laughter and European meanderings — and something in me shifted.
Since then, I’ve been chasing that spark — the one that lights when you find yourself in a place where the language is foreign, the food is unfamiliar, and yet something feels startlingly like home. It’s not just about discovering the world, but rediscovering pieces of yourself along the way.
I’ll never forget the words of Maria, a kind and wise Mexican woman I once stayed with, who gently reminded me — when I needed it most:
"Be brave. Be strong. Be afraid."
Because travel doesn’t always mean fearlessness — it means walking into the unknown, heart pounding, and going anyway.
